Pilsner Time
Pilsner Time
The most wonderful time of the year? Perhaps! Plus, get ready for live music!
A Message from the Brewer
Spring in Interior Alaska means the black spruce trees are beginning their yearly cycle of growth. With that growth comes the spreading of offspring. Black spruce trees develop spruce cones that start with a beautiful purple color.
Enter Purple Cone Contemporary Pilsner. Our modern take on the beloved Pilsner style, Purple Cone is built upon a base of a few select Pilsner malts to give this beer a delicate and flavorful foundation of fresh baked bread, crackers and honey. In the kettle, we layer in choice US-grown Strata and Cashmere hops to give this lager herbal and fruity flavors. We ferment this beer low and slow with a real gem of a lager yeast strain and then dry hop with more Strata and Cashmere hops to layer in additional hop notes. We then spund (read about it HERE) to capture some natural carbonation. We lager this beer for many moons before packaging for all of you lovely folks to enjoy.
Cheers,
Carey Fristoe, Head Brewer
New Hours
Effective immediately, we’ve got new hours on Thursdays and Fridays! We are now open from 3PM to 9PM on Thursdays and from 12PM to 9PM on Fridays! That means that you could be in our taproom and enjoying a fresh lager today at noon! All of our other hours are the same for the time being. Cheers to a few extra hours of quality local beer time!
Live Music 4/13
For the first time ever, we’ll be hosting live music at Black Spruce next Saturday, April 13! From 6PM to 9PM, we’ll be showcasing three local solo acts: TED, Heart Machine and Jonny J. All three artists will be performing in our actual brewery where we make beer on our brew deck! What a stage, right?
There is no cover charge for this show, and folks under 21 are welcome to attend with a parent. Sweet Prik Thai Asian Fusion will be on-hand, if you’re in need of a snack, and, as always, we’ll have plenty of great craft beer and cider on tap, along with a selection of non-alcoholic beverages. We hope that you’ll join us for the first in a series of live events this summer, and cheers to terrific local tunes and delicious Fairbanks brews!
