Shining Light on a Dark Beer
What’s the deal with black IPA anyway? Plus, we’ve got more taproom events on the horizon and a new release on Friday!
A Message from the Brewer
Our second collaboration with Lat 65 Brewing Company is a rich, dark and hoppy Black IPA: At Dawn, We Ride.
First conceived in October of 2023, this collaboration slowly took shape over the following months. Having settled on a Black IPA, Josh and I had to decide if we wanted to head down the more roasty, resiny Cascadian Dark Ale route or the smooth, citrusy Black IPA route. We decided on the latter. We chose a base of pilsner malt and accented it with a good dose of Munich malt for some rich malt character and a touch of Pale Chocolate malt for a smooth milk chocolate character. To dial in the color of the beer we used a German product called Sinamar. Sinamar is a dark malt extract made in accordance with Reinheitsgebot. We hopped the beer with Australian Eclipse hops for some delicious Mandarin Orange character and conditioned the beer on orange peel and vanilla to enhance those smooth citrus and chocolate flavors.
Come give it a try if you haven't already. Currently on tap and in 4-packs and moving quickly.
Cheers,
Carey Fristoe, Head Brewer
